There are some really great bars and restaurants on Fire Island, however the hot spots are Ocean Beach and Cherry Grove. Cherry Grove is a predominately gay community on the east end of the Island. Ocean Beach on the other hand is more diverse with all ages, types, and well know for it's mix of family and 20-30 something's time share groups. The bar scene is made up of predominately straight single young professionals.

Fair Harbor:

The Dock
Friday and Saturday evening people gather at the dock for an event dubbed "The Sixish." If you want to dine while watching the sunset, visit the Dock restaurant. We recommend: grilled sushi-grade tuna in ginger lime broth with coconut rice and coconut curry tiger shrimp. Great seafood abundant seafood, steak, chicken and pasta dishes. Dress is casual. Dance all night to the DJ that spins every Friday and Saturday nights.

The Casino -631-597-6150

Kismet:

Kismet Inn & Marina
For 25 years the wooden building in which the restaurant is located is has been considered a Fire Island landmark. A mix of locals and tourists hang out on the giant wooden bayside deck and enjoy the sunset.

The Out
The Out offers a full selection of typical steak and chicken dishes, but seafood is the specialty here. Specials are offered every Monday through Thursday night (shrimp, lobster, local fish night, and a clambake). Live bands and DJs are featured on weekends.

Ocean Beach:

Albatross
The Mallot family has owned this restaurant and bar longer then most people have lived on the island. This is a great place to start and end the night. The food is fantastic, we recommend having the cajun calamari
or tuna steak sandwich. Come Play darts, drink lots and what ever you do don't swing the lights!

Bocce Beach
Pool tables, bands, darts, lots of dancing and an ATM. A 20 something's bar that gets a little crazy usually early on in the night.
Phone: 631-583-8100

China Beach
This is the only Chinese restaurant in ocean beach and possible the entire island. They serve up some darn good sushi, and they have a Sunday buffet that is not to be missed.

CJ's
CJ's is one of the only bars and restaurants open all year long. During the off season this is where locals come to meet. The summer crowd is a healthy mix of locals and weekend warriors. This is the best place to go and have a drink while waiting for the ferry, since they have a monitor of all boats coming and leaving so you can't miss your ride back to the main land.

Houser's Grill
A long time favorite among locals. We thought about leaving it off this listing so we could keep that way. But it's so good we had to share it with you. Very small, very fun. Pool tables and great classic rock. The crowd is a mix of young and old and seems to attract big time drinkers.

Island Mermaid
The Mermaid will get down right cheesy the latter it gets. If you have a boat, park it here keep this as your home base. Decent food, and one of Ocean Beach's best locations right on the ferry dock. We recommend the grilled yellowfin tuna with steamed jasmine rice and the herb-crusted Chilean sea bass served in a lemongrass shrimp broth with lobster potato dumplings. Although it gets crowded inside, the deck is fairly open. Karaoke is big here, dance floor is good and the music is a mix of club and rock.

Maguire's
This is one of the bigger, and more fun spots. Great burgers! Come here late night and you will not be disappointed. It gets chilly on the deck so bring a long sleeve shirt.

Matthew's Seafood
For 26 years it's been a Fire Island classic with an intimate setting right on the bay. The food is awesome, and the bar can get really fun especially if your sick of the crowds. This is a great place to take a date, before hitting the bar scene. The night life here is a little older and local, if you sit at the bar you will surly here what fire island was like 30 years ago. The private dock is one nice amenity.

Michael's Restaurant and Pizzeria
Here’s where to go when the call of pancakes, omelets, crispy bacon and savory sausage invades your senses. Burgers and the reuben are a good choice for lunch and or course Pizza.
Phone: 631-597-6555

Rachel's
Come here for breakfast or a late night pastry. Rachel has a place in ocean beach and cherry grove and she knows how to make cookies!
Phone: 631-583-9552

Sun & Moon
Good food, Bands, surf videos, but very small. A very cool hang out any time of day, we recommend the happy hour.
Phone: 631-583-8300

Town Pizza
For a bunch of Irish guys they make darn good pizza. This pizza is as good as New York best.
Phone: 631-583-7774
Ocean Bay Park:
Flynn's
By day, the crowd is casual, relaxed and diverse: older couples, younger couples and families eating dinner during sunset (we recommend the grilled tuna with soy- ginger glaze and cucumber relish) at night it's young and crazy at this, the last bar before the fence at Point O' Woods. The hard core party crowd seems to flock here from all other towns. DJs liven up the place on Friday and Saturday nights, and reggae music is featured early Sunday evening.
